How we scope a mobile app in 10 days
A practical approach to defining audience, release scope, and product risk before design begins.
The fastest way to miss a launch window is to start designing before the product decisions are clear. We usually begin with a short discovery window that focuses on three things: who the product is for, what outcome matters most, and what can safely be left for later.
By the end of the process, the team should have a release scope that is smaller, clearer, and easier to defend. That gives design and engineering a stable target, which reduces rework and keeps the first release believable.
A good scope document does not need to be long. It needs to answer the questions that unlock delivery: what is essential, what can wait, what needs validation, and where the main risks are.
